Cartman a ‘Scab,’ Writers Claim
HOLLYWOOD (Disassociated Press) November 27, 2007 – Eric Cartman, the animated child star of Comedy Central’s South Park, has drawn the ire of many member of the WGA writers union for his appearance on the telecast of the Nebraska – Colorado football game the day after Thanksgiving last week.
“He shouldn’t be doing what he did – he should be showing solidarity with the union, and not crossing the picket line,” stated picketing Hollywood writer Mitz N.D. Keyes. Other striking writers shared in Keyes’s opinion.
Cartman, apparently a long time fan of the Colorado Buffalos, was featured near the beginning of the telecast to introduce the offensive and defensive starting lineups for the Colorado team.
“What he said wasn’t ad lib – those were written introductions,” continued Keyes. In that way, he’s violating the spirit of the strike.” Cartman’s intros included many gag lines that seemed to many to have been pre-created, rather than spontaneous.
South Park Co-Star Kyle Broflovski, who has expressed solidarity with the WGA and has refrained from any television appearances since the beginning of the strike earlier this month, didn’t seem surprised by Cartman’s actions.
“It’s about what I would expect from that fat ass,” said Broflovski.
