Caller-In to Talk Show Draws Ire of PETA

 LOS ANGELES (Disassociated Press) – April 16, 2007 – PETA has condemned the language of and called for a measure of punishment against a caller in to a radio talk show, who used words on the radio that PETA refers to as “derogatory, hurtful and demeaning.”

             The incident revolves around a caller in to McIntyre in the Morning, the morning drive program heard on KABC in the greater Los Angeles area, hosted by Doug McIntyre, also a frequent guest host substituting for Bill O’Reilly on the nationally syndicated The Radio Factor. 

            During one segment of the program heard last Friday, McIntyre requested listeners to call in to voice their opinions and vote on which they thought to be cuter, little baby ducks or little baby bunnies.

          “It’s a hard choice to make,” voiced one caller.  “Little baby ducks have such cute little nappy heads, but on the other hand, little baby bunnies are such cute little ‘hos.’”

         McIntyre immediately admonished the caller, stating that this type of language was inappropriate for and had no place being heard on the public air waves.

         Later in the day, PETA managed to learn the identity of the caller, one Scott McAllister, a recent transplant from Massachusetts to the North Hollywood section of Los Angeles.

         “There is no place for this type of speech in reference to any kind of animal anywhere in our culture and society, and we are calling for Mr. McAllister’s privilege to use a telephone to be immediately and permanently revoked,” stated PETA spokesperson Penelope Vandersmeer.

         McAllister was quick to respond.  “I truly and deeply apologize for the mean spirited, ignorant and foolish comments I made about ducks and bunnies, and I also want to apologize to anybody else I may have offended.  I only hope that no baby duck or bunny will end up being scarred for life because of my deplorable remarks, and I would be happy to meet with any duck or bunny in person to again express my deepest apologies.”

          Any such meeting may be long in coming for McAllister; thus far, no duck or bunny has accepted his offer for a face to face meeting.
