E! to Re-Do Season Five of Simple Life
LOS ANGELES (Disassociated Press) May 15, 2007 – Just mere weeks before its scheduled seasonal debut, season five of The Simple Life, the E! Network reality show which chronicles the faux follies of figurative femme fatales Paris Hilton and Nichole Ritchie, will be postponed and re-named.
“We’ve decided that it would be in the best interest of the network and the show to capitalize on the legal and incarceration misadventures of the two stars, and change the theme and title for the fifth season from The Simple Life Goes to Camp to The Simple Life Goes to Jail,” explained Seth Gumbridge, E! Network Spokesperson for The Simple Life.
The new season, which originally had been scheduled to show the girls acting as camp councilors in Malibu, will now chronicle the ingénues' days behind bars for a multiplicity of criminal infractions that the two have been recently been convicted of committing. The debut of the new season, which had originally been scheduled for Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2007, will be changed to a date yet to be determined.
This is not the first time that The Simple Life epic has been a subject of provocative interest; in the spring of 2004, government intelligence reports indicated that The Simple Life had been being considered as a potential "high value target" for Al Qaeda (see Al Qaeda Abandons 'The Simple Life 2' as Target, Intelligence Reports Indicate, The Disassociated Press, June 14, 2004).
Fans of The Simple Life have had mixed reactions to the news. “I’m kind of disappointed, because I was looking forward to the debut,” stated 14 year old Stephanie Rodriguez of Santa Ana, California. “But – to see them in jail? That’s going to be so cool!”
