Geiko Voice-over Guy from the Movies Smash Hit of Oscars
HOLLYWOOD (Disassociated Press) February 27, 2007 – Don LaFontaine, the legendary voice from numerous movie promotional trailers, whose talents have been spotlighted in a recent Geiko commercial, turned out to be the smash hit at this year’s Academy Award ceremonies amongst the stars. LaFontaine shared in the public address announcement duties at the awards show Sunday night.
“I always wondered who that guy from the movies was, and I just want to thank Geiko and the Academy for letting the world know the answer,” stated multiple Oscar winner and nominee Jack Nicholson.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Academy from bringing Don LaFontaine to the forefront of this year’s celebration of the movies,” said 14 time Oscar nominee and two time Oscar winner Meryl Streep.
Multiple Oscar winner and nominee Tom Hanks reflected the sentiments of Nicholson and Streep. “Don LaFontaine’s voice has inspired numerous people to attend movies over the years,” Hanks concluded. “For bringing his great talent into the limelight, I truly want to thank the Academy.”
This was the second public relations coup of the month for Geiko; at the beginning of February, the Geiko caveman guy was smash success on the Super Bowl telecast.
In an unrelated story, Disassociated Press associates spoke to this year’s awards organizers about the significant format change that was implemented into this year’s Oscar ceremonies. Traditionally, the Best Supporting Actor Award has kicked off the presentation of the awards, usually following immediately after the host’s opening monologue. This year, the Best Supporting Actor Award was presented later, about an hour and a half into the program.
“We had a sneaking suspicion that Alan Arkin was going to win,” claimed a representative from the programming organizers. “So we decided to make Arkin wait until dark."
