Les Miles Pays Tribute to Howard Dean on Eve of New Hampshire Primary

January 7, 2007 – On the Eve of the New Hampshire Presidential Primary, Les Miles, Head Coach of the newly crowned College Football National Champion Louisiana State University, paid a tribute to former Vermont Governor Howard Dean.

“I’m not a registered with any political party; however, I do follow politics and the political process,” explained Miles.  “I’m not going to say I was or was not a Dean supporter four years ago; but I do think he got a raw deal just for saying ‘yahoo’ after the Democratic Primary in New Hampshire four years ago.”

Miles, during a post game interview following LSU’s National Championship Game victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes, interrupted the press conference, saying, “excuse me” - then tipped his head back, and shouted a long, slow “whoo, hoo!”  Miles hoot holler reminded many in attendance of Dean’s similar famous emotional exclamation following the former Vermont Governor’s disappointing 3rd place finish in the New Hampshire Primary in 2004.

When reached by phone for comment, Dean stated, “I really appreciate Coach Miles exclamation of solidarity – and I look forward to next year’s National Championship game, when LSU will attempt to defend its national championship against Vermont."
