Left, Right Partisans Pilfer Each Other's Playbooks
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Disassociated Press) August 12, 2009 – "Talking points partisans" of both predominant parties are crying foul play against each other, as the rising rhetoric reaches new heights over issues of the day.
The hot debate came to a head earlier this week, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wrote an op-ed piece published in numerous prominent newspapers, labeling people attending town hall meetings across the country, protesting the various health care revision proposals being pushed in the House, as being "anti-American."
This drew an immediate response from various right wing voices. "Nancy Pelosi is calling these people anti-American?" exclaimed Sean Hannity, conservative radio talk show host. "Labeling political opponents as being unpatriotic is MY job." Hannity is among the most vocal of conservative commentators who moderate pundits proclaim to fall back on accusations of anti-Americanism to invoke an emotional reaction in a political argument.
Democratic insiders are reporting that the Speaker's comments are in retaliation for the right wing's own recent traversing into what many consider to be a traditional left wing propagandistic province, when conservative spokespeople and lawmakers injected accusations of racism into the recent Sotomayor confirmation hearings. "They drew first blood," one such insider suggested.
