O.J. Sentence to Prolong Recession, Economist Warns
LAS VEGAS (Disassociated Press) December 6, 2008 – The potentially long sentence handed down today for O.J. Simpson by Clark County District Court Judge Jackie Glass for violations of Nevada weapons, armed robbery and kidnapping laws that Simpson was recently convicted of will have a rippling and deleterious effect on the already staggering economy, claimed Bartholomew J. Sneed, Professor of Media and Economics at the Annenberg and Wharton schools of the University of Pennsylvania.
"'Simpson watching' has evolved into quite a cottage industry over the last several years, going all the way back to the murders on Bundy in Los Angeles," stated Sneed. "With O.J. going away for so long, thousands in the media, whose sole purpose has been to follow the high jinks of the wayward superstar on behalf of media interests, may have to be laid off." Few are unfamiliar with the famous trial and acquittal of O.J. Simpson during the mid 1990s for the murders of Simpson's ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.
As for recommendations to those who may be adversely affected by the impending 'lack of O.J.;' "keep an eye on Christian Bale," advises Sneed.
