Sex Crimes ‘Expert’ Lands Reality TV Series
TAMPA (Disassociated Press) June 5, 2006 – Owen Lafave, estranged husband to former teacher Debra Lafave, will be appearing on a major new reality television show this fall. Mrs. Lafave’s sexual misconduct with her 14 year old student has been much discussed in the national press.
The show, titled Make Me Cringe!, is to debut on the Fox broadcast network and will be hosted by Mr. Lafave, who has recently achieved a degree of notoriety himself by going on the talk show circuit to discuss his headline making wife, and at times sex crimes in general. In the eyes of some, apparently, Lafave has achieved the status of sex crimes expert simply by virtue of his wife having cheated on him with a 14 year old.
“I got the idea from listening to my assistant, Penelope, talk about Owen when he would come onto a talk show,” explained the show’s creator, Seth Gumbridge. “She would say, ‘Oh, my! – I can’t take my eyes off this – it’s like watching a train wreck! Every time this guy comes on another show, he only reminds everybody that his wife cheated on him with a kid! I’m so embarrassed for him, it makes me cringe!'”
The show will feature contestants, selected from across the country, who will compete to see which among them can subject themselves to the greatest degree of humiliation and personal degradation. The ultimate winner will be awarded an unpaid apprenticeship to serve as third to fourth tier celebrity actor Judge Reinhold’s personal assistant. Reinhold is considered by many to have the worst ‘importance to abusiveness quotient' in the entertainment industry.
The show is expected to be yet the next in a line of reality television triumphs for Gumbridge at Fox, which includes Star School (see Garofalo, Kilmead 'Debate' Inspires New Celebrity Game Show, The Disassociated Press, February 28, 2003), a show that pits celebrities debating obscure topics of which they have no knowledge while being subjected to unsavory and disgusting distractions, and Chiller! (see Michael Jackson Interview Inspires New Reality Television Show, The Disassociated Press, February 6, 2003) a show in which contestants inhabit and populate the Antarctic in a competition to have Michael Jackson adopt their children.
